Discretionary distribution (noun): When trusts leave a subjective standard for the trustee to follow, it is the trustee’s right to make discretionary distributions. This essentially means it is up to the trustee to make their own decisions when a trust does not contain clear guidance with regard to distributions to beneficiaries.
